Attend Procurve’s Presentation “Successfully Playing the Network Security Game” at the 2008 Government & Health Technologies Conference and Expo

2008 – Toronto, Canada – ProCurve Networking by HP will deliver a presentation on “Successfully Playing the Network Security Game: Combining the Offense and the Defense” at the 2008 Government and Health Technologies Conference and Expo.

Building a secure network is no game to consider lightly. The age of innocence is over. Technologies, as well as those using them, have become more savvy, more intricate and at times, more dangerous. Enterprise networks, which act as the gateway and hotbed for both intentional and unintentional harm, are increasingly vulnerable. Downtime is no longer an inconvenience, but a costly and debilitating specter.

One successful strategy for building a secure network is to play both the security offense and security defense at the same time by combining the offense and defense into a single coordinated security strategy.

This session will offer direction for playing and winning against the complexities of secure network operations. It will identify trends in secure technologies that will enhance your network with the utmost protection in today’s business and technology environment.

Among one of the few massively multiplayer onlinevrole-playing games which are actually free we find Silkroad which was developed by the South Korean company Joymax. This online game was released in 2005 and has been a hit ever since. It is said that much of the game is actually based on historical facts based on the Silk Road and is also based on a triangular system for trading goods.

A little bit about the silk Road history:

This was actually a route before goods and cultural transmission all across Asia, it extended throughout many regions of the Asian continent and connect to several traders, merchants, monks, pilgrims, soldiers, urban dwellers from China all the way to the Mediterranean Sea. This route was initiated by the Han dynasty.

The game:

This online platform tries to re-create the actual Silkroad at a much smaller scale, it provides players with special abilities as well as magical skills which they can use for their advantage during their travels through the silk road. Once a player’s character achieves a level of 20 he or she is allowed to choose three different roles for its character which is one of the main features found in this game.

Amongst the most famous games produced by the also famous Valve Corporation we find the one called counterstrike source which was supposed to be a modification to the half-life game. Just like all of the Valve’s games this is also a first-person shooter which puts the player right in the middle of the action.

Unlike Half-Life where the player has a golf against all sorts of aliens as well as undead creatures or team Fortress were the player joined hands with the rest of his team in order to defeat the other, Counter-Strike source takes the game to a whole new level by matching an antiterrorist group against a terrorist cell.

This game is played in missions for instance, the player may be asked to detonate a bomb and release hostages or the players may also be asked to eliminate a terrorist cell. This game is a complete remake which takes full advantage of Valve’s source engine, instead of using a port which leads to additional content.

Since the player is placed as an antiterrorist soldier the characteristic features of the weapons change accordingly, the source version features an improved radar which features a green-HUD translucent mini map which shows a lot more details compared to the previous version.

Team Fortress 2 has to be without a doubt one of the craziest first-person shooter games you will ever play, it has been created and developed by the amazing Valve Corporation, which is the same video game company which brought us the even more interesting Half-Life.

The difference between first-person shooters in those games which feature an isometric angle is that the first one puts the player right in the middle of the action and so this type of games often require a great deal of work when it comes to graphics, games which are played at an asymmetric angle to require a great deal of detail when it comes to graphics because the player is practically controlling the main characters from above, this also gives him a clear view of the surroundings which is something you can get when you’re playing a first-person shooter game.
