Ok, I wasn’t going to say anything, but last week my fan page was hacked and now it’s becoming international news so I guess I’ll address it. I was actually in Vegas and Hawaii doing a speaking tour when all of this took place with the help of my social media team everything got taken care of, so here’s the story.
Those of you that are my Facebook fans (if you’re not go here now and ‘like me’) may have noticed that a little over a week ago I stopped posting my usual article updates and only a couple of posts popped up, including something about celebrating Kosovo’s Independence Day (I did not post that). The day before Valentine’s Day my Facebook Fanpage was hacked and I was removed as an administrator along with the other administrators that help with the page. At first we thought that it was a mistake or that there was somehow a bug in Facebook’s system, but a little later on that day someone posted ‘Happy Valentine’s Day !’ on my page. Since neither my social media team nor I had access to post anything like that to my fanpage this had to be the work of someone else, so my social media team went to work investigating.
Ethical hacking involves computer and network professionals who use their expertise to safeguard the networks of an organization on behalf of its owners. In order to test a security system, they seek vulnerabilities that a malicious hacker could exploit. Ethical hacking is also known as penetration testing, intrusion testing, and red teaming. An ethical hacker is sometimes called a white hat while the other one is called black hat. Ethical hackers collect and assess information on issues like loopholes which are truly a security threat, the depth to which a hacker can get into via one of these holes and the patching requirements in order of priority.
The ethical hacker aims to help the organization take anticipatory measures against malicious attacks by attacking the system himself; all the while staying within legal limits. The most important point is that an Ethical Hacker has authorization to probe the target. The reason is that as technology advances and organizations depend on technology increasingly, information assets have evolved into critical components of survival and need to be protected at any cost.
Need for Ethical Hacking
A hacker is a computer follower who enjoys programming, solving problems related to it, trying to increase computer capabilities, learning all the details of a particular piece of software, and so on. Sometimes the term hacker is also related to a person who gains unauthorized access to computer systems with some malicious intent. A hacker who is engaged in constructive practice considers this an offensive misuse of the term.
The practice of altering computer hardware and software to achieve certain goal is known as computer hacking and the people who engages in these activities are called hackers. Since the word “hack” is used in negative sense, some hackers claim that this term is disrespectful and fails to provide appropriate recognition to their skills.
Computer hacking is most common among teenagers and young adults, although there are many older hackers as well. Many hackers are true technology buffs who enjoy learning more about how computers work and consider computer hacking an “art” form. They often enjoy programming and have expert-level skills in one particular program. For these individuals, computer hacking is a real life application of their problem-solving skills. It’s a chance to demonstrate their abilities, not an opportunity to harm others.
