We tried both in a real case study: Sending a registered mail via EMS from Vienna to Bahrain for EUR 45 and sending the same document via Opolis Secure Mail for free. – What a difference and experience!
The letter was posted at a Vienna post office on 6 July at 10.00 and – as we could see on the EMS website – had reached EMS distribution center in Vienna by 19.00 that day. Despite an indication that such shipment would take approximately 3 days to Bahrain we got worried that the status of our letter had not changed by 14 July – more than a full week after posting it. In an admittedly swift response upon our request by EMS we were told that the EMS partner in the Middle East had changed its mail identification system, so that our letter could actually not be tracked. However, the document – we were told – had been delivered on 11 July, 5 days after posting it.

Sending the same document for free with Opolis Secure Mail merely requires that both, the sender and the recipient, are Opolis users. The registration process – whereby a valid email address is submitted as identification – takes approximately 5 minutes. The rest works like any other standard email: The document is attached and the message simply sent.

Of course, you don’t need a secure email service for arranging drinks tonight ….
But what, if you send private photos, a confidential document or your tax files?
As a Hotmail or Gmail user, you do take a substantial risk: There, messages are not transferred safe, as they are not point-to-point encrypted. Only then messages would be hack secure and immune.
With Opolis Secure Mail (http://www.opolis.eu) all messages are sent point-to-point encrypted, and the service is free as well.
Opolis was launched to provide a fully integrated high-security email and messaging service solution. For a user, Opolis seems to function like any other free webmail, such as Hotmail or Gmail. However, Opolis combines all security and safety features and encryption steps user-friendly in a single service. And Opolis operates from any host PC all over the world.

Opolis includes also unique monitoring functions: The sender can track all sent messages along their further trail. Hence, if forwarding were allowed, then the sender will see when and to whom a message was forwarded and how it was further processed.

Of course, you can attach your holiday photos to a Hotmail, Gmail or Yahoo email. – But usually you will face a number of restrictions by using standard email providers: Photos are usually large, and you can only send a limited number of them to your friends, before exceeding transfer limits. – Then there is the issue of control: How do you ensure that your photos are not spread around or sent to individuals who are not supposed to see or get them?
These are common, every-day issues when sending photos, but also when sending confidential memos or documents. Whilst there are several alternatives to Hotmail, Gmail, Yahoo and other standard email providers, only Opolis Secure Mail is for free!
Indeed, Opolis Secure Mail (http://www.opolis.eu) is the first secure Email and messaging provider, offering its services for free: With Opolis each message and attachment – such as photos – will be sent secure and encrypted all the way from the sender to the recipient. Besides, messages and attachments, such as photos, can also be archived with Opolis in an entirely secure mode.

On 28 June 2010 APA and the international press reported that ten Russian intelligence officers had been arrested for allegedly serving as illegal agents of the Russian government in the United States. Among them, 28 year-old Anna Chapman.
After her arrest by the FBI, Ms Chapman gained overnight minor celebrity status while under custody. Even when current US Vice-President Joe Biden was asked on NBC’s “Tonight Show with Jay Leno”: “Do we have any spies that hot?”, the Vice-President replied in a mock serious tone, “Let me be clear. It was not my idea to send her back.”
So, the question comes up: What if Ms Chapman has used Opolis Secure Mail for communication? – Whilst there is no reason to support Anna Chapman´s alleged actions in the United States, it seems obvious that if she had used a secure email service provider, her communication via email would not have been easily detected. – Interestingly enough, what is good enough for secret services – namely taking advantages of encrypted messaging – is nowadays available for everyone, and even for free. That is particular important for sending confidential emails and documents, especially in business context.

Opolis Secure Mail provides a free encrypted sender-to-recipient protected mail and messaging service.
Opolis is a response to the growing demand for secure Email services: But, what makes email traffic “really” secure?
To start with, email transmissions are only entirely secure if messages remain encrypted all the way from the sender to the recipient. In Europe, for example, messages sent via “secure” services like De-Mail or E-Postbrief are de- and again encrypted on their journey to the recipient, and therefore clearly at risk. – With Opolis messages remain encrypted all the way from the sender to the recipient.
Besides, in Opolis all security mechanics is integrated in one single service: Hence, no risky exchange of codes – for example via SMS – is required before a sent message can be read. And, with Opolis even the passwords of each user are encrypted and cannot be hacked.
Opolis brings email security to a new level with its “Power to the Sender” principle: Based on that, the sender of a message decides what the recipient is allowed to do with it. And, the sender can even forbid the recipient to forward, print or copy an Email.
